IDENTITY IN CHRIST

“If you try to selfishly grab for all you can get, you’ll lose everything, but if you are willing to lose what you have for Christ’s sake, you will be rewarded with meaning, purpose, rich relationships, and eternal rewards. The messages is clear, but the heart is evil. The lure of the world causes Christians to look away and think real life is found apart from Christ.”

For Demas, in love with this present world, has deserted me and gone to Thessalonica. 2 Timothy 4:10

I don’t want to go from loving Jesus to loving the world. I want to be on guard. I don’t want my heart to wonder.

Love One Another

Being here and seeing the industry stirs up many different emotions. Not only is it hard to see the way these girls and women are treated, but it’s hard to see the men doing it to them. My full intentions going into this trip were to not hate men. Even with the worst things I just wanted to not have this hatred in my heart. The past week in my own personal time with the Lord I have learned different things to help me keep this hatred away.

Not taking revenge.

“You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’ But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.”   - Matthew 5:38-39

We naturally have an instinct of taking revenge on people when they have done wrong. Even though in our society we are taught to get revenge if someone wrongs us, Jesus teaches us to turn the cheek. We are to return kindness for evil. Being here and seeing the way these men treat these women I have at times had this hatred. I have felt as if they were hurting me, and to be honest I wanted revenge.

“Our ability to forgive others comes from our experience of being forgiven for our own sins, and we leave justice in God’s righteous hands.”

Love one another.

“Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.”

–1 John 4:11

We are taught by Jesus to love the people who have hurt us, not hate. Jesus didn’t die for only some people; He died to save everyone from their sins. We aren’t just here to pick and choose whom we love; we are to love everyone because Jesus has loved them first.  This has been a hard concept to use while here, but I’ve had to let God show me what love is.
